Detlef Glow - Head of EMEA Research, Lipper

Background

Detlef joined Lipper in mid 2005 from Feri Wealth Management, where he was Director of Portfolio Management, managing segregated accounts for high net worth individuals (HNWI). Prior to this he spent nine years with tecis Holding AG, most recently as Head of Fund Research for tecis Asset Management AG. In this role he was responsible for the quantitative and qualitative fund research for the tecis fund of funds, the HNWI accounts and the recommendation list of funds for the financial adviser arm of tecis. Detlef has an MBA focusing on Financial Services from the University of Wales/Cardiff, as well as a BA in Business Administration.

Ed Moisson, Head of United Kingdom and Ireland Research, Lipper

Background

Ed is the Head of UKI & Cross-border Research at Lipper where he has spent the past twelve years researching the European mutual funds industry. He joined Lipper as part of the acquisition of Fitzrovia International where he had been a specialist in fund fees since 1999. Although fees remain a particular interest, his research also covers fund flows, performance and related industry dynamics.

He has a Master degree from University of Cambridge and a Bachelors degree from University of York.

Otto Christian Kober, Global Head of Methodology

Background

Otto is the Global Head of Methodology and responsible for Lipper’s global calculation, fund classification and fund rating methodologies.

Otto joined Lipper from Bopp, a Swiss fund data provider. Bopp was acquired by Reuters in 1998 and subsequently integrated into Lipper. After the integration, Otto served from 2001 until 2006 as Head of Research Switzerland. In this role, he had editorial responsibility for the Swiss Funds Guide, the Lipper Switzerland products maintenance and integration into the Lipper Global product framework.

Otto studied history and law at the University of Zurich and holds a BBA degree of the Graduate School of Business Administration of Zurich.

Xav Feng - Head of Asia Research, Lipper

Background

Xav Feng oversees research in the Asia region as Head of Research. He has substantial fund industry experience in both China and Taiwan.

Xav started at Lipper in 2006, initially responsible for Taiwan market, specializing in Taiwan mutual fund analysis. He covered Greater China region since 2007 and initiated China QFII & QDII fund research, China risk classification rating research and Asia alternative investments. Prior to joining Lipper, he was in HSBC Investment Taiwan, a global leading asset management company.

He is an experienced media commenter, having been interviewed on research and investment management topics by cross region leading TV, broadcast channels and print publications.

Xav is a law graduate from the Taiwan National Taipei University and has a Master's degree in Risk Management and Insurance from Taiwan National Chengchi University. He also holds securities, futures specialist and property insurance broker licenses in Taiwan.

Tom Roseen - Head of Research Services, Lipper

Background

Tom focuses on institutional and retail research in the United States, Canada and Latin America. He is the editor and an author of Lipper’s U.S. Research Studies, FundFlow Insight Reports, and FundIndustry Insight Reports. In addition, Tom is the author of "Taxes in the Mutual Fund Industry." He is involved in fund analysis and research, and contributes to the monthly and quarterly equity and fixed income FundMarket Insight reports, webcasts, and podcasts, where he focuses on domestic and world fund performance and attribution. His areas of expertise include closed-end fund analysis, portfolio evaluation, equity and fixed income fund research, fund flows analysis, after-tax performance, and Lipper Leaders. Tom has appeared on TV and on various radio programs and has been cited in many of the industry’s leading financial publications.

Tom joined Lipper in 1996 from Janus and has worked in several positions, including portfolio, performance, board analysis services, and research.

Tom has a BS in finance from Metropolitan State College of Denver and a Master's in International Management from the University of Denver. Tom is an affiliate member of the CFA Society of Colorado.

Jeff Tjornehoj- Head of Americas Research, Lipper

Background

Jeff manages Lipper’s research efforts in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. His responsibilities include general industry knowledge, performance, flows, and methodology. He is a regular contributor to Lipper’s Fund Flows and Closed-End Funds reports and writes and presents Lipper’s quarterly performance review, with an emphasis on fixed income markets. He is widely quoted in the financial media, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, SmartMoney, CNBC, Ignites.com, and more.

Jeff joined Lipper in 1997, serving as a fee and expense analyst and later a portfolio research specialist. For the past ten years, he’s been in the research department where he assumed his current role.

Jeff has completed Level I of the CFA program and holds a BA in economics from Metropolitan State College. Jeff is also a member of the Canadian Investment Funds Standards Committee.

Barry Fennell, Senior Research Analyst

Background

Barry is a senior research analyst at Lipper specializing in mutual fund research and performance analysis. In this role he also researches and creates commentary on topical developments in the mutual fund industry. Prior to joining Lipper, Barry was a Director at Fidelity Investments where he was engaged in researching and analyzing mutual funds for the firm’s asset management division for over a decade. Within this role he also assisted with new fund development and wrote extensively on capital markets and fund performance. Barry has also held mutual fund performance analyst positions at State Street and GMO.

Barry holds a B.A. in Economics and History from Tufts University and a MBA from Boston College. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Kevin Pollard, Research Analyst, Methodology

Background

Kevin is a research analyst specializing in performance measurement, methodology development, and mutual fund analytics for fund management. He has a BSc, Economics from the University of York.

Andrew Clark, Manager of Alternative Investment Research

Background

Andrew Clark is the manager of alternative investment research at Lipper. Andrew’s most recent articles have appeared in the Journal of Indexes, the Journal of Index Investing, the Journal of Investing and Physica A. His shorter pieces have appeared on websites such as IndexUniverse.eu, Seeking Alpha, Mine Web, Hedge Week and Hubbis. In 2013 he will have a chapter on commodities appear in the book Alternative Investments – Balancing Opportunity and Risk (to be published by John Wiley in 2013). His recent work on evolutionary algorithms and optimization will appear as a chapter in the LNCS series by Springer in 2013.

Andrew has won several awards for his research, most recently the Best Paper award from the World Congress on Engineering and Computer Science in 2011. He was an invited speaker at Computational and Financial Economics 2010 (a joint London School of Economics and Birbeck College conference) and a plenary speaker at both SIAM’s Control and Applications Conference in 2011and IAENG’s WCECS conference in 2011.

He has been invited to speak on market theory at the annual American Mathematical Society meeting in January 2013.

Andrew is a referee for the Journal of Investing, the Journal of Index Investing and Applied Soft Computing.

Patrick Keon, Research Analyst

Background

Pat Keon is a Lipper research analyst specializing in U.S fund classifications and portfolio analytics. Pat joined Lipper in 2005 and has worked in several areas, including portfolio, content and research.

Pat has a BBA with a major in finance from Iona College (New Rochelle, NY) and earned an MBA from Regis University (Denver, CO) with an emphasis in finance and accounting.
